Transcendentalism in Advertising/Products
- One way Transcendentalism principles are reflected in advertising is in the ChristianMingle commercials.
In the above picture, it's suggested that love between people of Christianity can be found or enjoyed in nature, relating to the principle that God's spirit can be found there (in nature).
- Transcendentalism is often evident in clothing. There's usually always a variety to choose from in the styles of clothes whether it be different patterns, colors, or designs, contributing to the idea of avoiding conformity and promoting individualism.
- Another example of transcendentalism in advertising is Nike's slogan "Just do it", promoting motivation in self-reliance.

Cast Away

[Chuck is celebrating on the beach after successfully lighting up a fire]
Chuck Noland: Look what I have created. I have made FIRE. I HAVE MADE FIRE!
“The happiest man is he who learns from nature the lesson of worship”- Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nature, relates to this scene in Cast Away because it shows how ecstatic Chuck is because he finally lit a fire, and how he worships it since it now means he can cook food.
"What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals." -Henry David Thoreau's quote relates to this scene because it shows that the fire coming alive doesn't compare to the sense of achievement Chuck feels when it lights.

Transcendental Aphorisms
“If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away.”- Henry David Thoreau
This quote reflects the Divine Soul and Individualism. It means if someone isn't contributing to conformity, it's perfectly okay since they're doing what they believe is important, staying true to their Divine Soul.
“You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment. Fools stand on their island of opportunities and look toward another land. There is no other land; there is no other life but this.” - Henry David Thoreau
This quote reflects spontaneous feeling and intuition. With sort of a "carpe diem" ring to it, it means not to take any moment for opportunity for granted and not dwell on the past.
“All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen.”- Ralph Waldo EmersonThis quote reflects using intuition to find God's spirit in nature. It means that by all the incredulous sights he's seen, he believes in all that he hasn't physically seen because of God.
“Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.”- Ralph Waldo EmersonThis quote reflects self-reliance. It means to not bother to worry about anything, that if you put your mind to it, it will happen.
“Courage is the most important of all the virtues because without courage, you can't practice any other virtue consistently.”- Maya Angelou
This quote reflects self-reliance. It means if you can't reach your full potential if you are hesitant and don't trust yourself.
“Keep close to Nature's heart...and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.”- John Muir
This quote reflects how the natural world can lead to the spiritual world. By embracing and rejoicing in nature, you revive your spirit and soul.
“Nature is God's first missionary. Where there is no Bible there are sparkling stars. Where there are not preachers there are spring times...If a person has nothing but nature, then nature is enough to reveal something about God.”- Max Lucado
This quote reflects how the natural world can lead to the spiritual world. Where there is nature, there is God, because nature reveals acts of God.
“Once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight, or any experience that reveals the human spirit”- E.E. Cummings
This quote reflects spontaneous feeling and intuition. It means once you just go with your gut feeling, the results are worthwhile.

Transcendentalism within Music
At Least I'm Not As Sad (As I Used To Be) - Fun.
"I don't need no savior baby, I just wanna have a good time" is the most prominent example of individualism in this song, It expresses how there is no need for company, that being solitary works out successfully. It also examples spontaneous feeling by going out on a whim, meeting new and old people, as well as "having a good time".
Like the Emerson quote from The Complete Prose Works of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “It is easy in the world to live after the world's opinion; it is easy in solitude to live after our own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude", thinking for yourself and individualism is key.Henry David Thoreau once said in Walden, “I have never found a companion that was so companionable as solitude.”, which like the above quotes, interprets into a person being capable without the presence of other people. Some people are better off alone.
